Landscape Paintings for Sale

Are you a collector of Canadian artist's paintings?  Browse through the work below for a terrific addition to your gallery of Canadiana.  All of the work below was painted in Canada by Canadian artist Don Sibley.  Most of it was painted "en plein air" - outside on location so it has a real live feel to it.  There is a spontaneity painting outdoors that cannot be replicated in the studio.  Sibley also paints on commission so if you have a landscape scene in mind that you think would make a great painting, please send it to the artist.  Start by contacting Sibley here

Balm Beach

Balm Beach, Ontario
Balm Beach, Ontario
This stretch of beach on Georgian Bay has special memories for me.  I remember swimming here as one of my earliest recollections.  The big rocks and uneven shoreline are just the way they were 50 years ago.

This vista is on property that belongs to friends of ours.  From here you can see across the valley to the Niagara Escarpment and on to Blue Mountain.

Swan Lake

Swan Lake Ontario
Swan Lake, Ontario
The Canadian Shield is evident through out Northern Ontario starting right about here just north of Parry Sound.  Here it is as if the top layer of earth was scraped away exposing the bedrock for all to see.  Deep scratches in the rock display the awesome force of the retreating glaciers. In this painting the massive rock formation bears the signature of a mountain of ice 2 km thick.

Severn River Train Trestle

Severn River Train Trestle
This big iron bridge crosses the Severn River at Port Severn Ontario. It calls from a distant era and makes me think of steam engines and logging.  It captured my attention as I was scouting out sites to paint.

The blue shadows falling across the building caught my eye on a summer morning.

Copeland Forest Swamp

Copeland Forest Swamp
The Copeland Forest is a favourite place to walk and enjoy nature.  Close to Barrie, I've been there frequently to paint and sketch.  The mist rising from the swamp this early fall morning creates a mood that I quite liked.

Township Hall

Township Hall
Township meetings at this location have long since ended, but the memories remain intact.  Located just outside of Bracebridge Ontario, this structure dating from the 1950's serves a different purpose now.  It reminds us of how simple life was before computers and broadband internet connections.

On the beach just down a bit from where Anne of Green Gables was written is this quiet stretch of beach on Prince Edward Island.

Path to the Orchard

Path to the Orchard
Path to the Orchard
A natural tunnel formed with trees and branches covers the path through this orchard in Markham Ontario.  No longer a useful orchard, the trees grow wild apples full of sun spots.  The path is worn smooth by the treads of many people who pass through this conservation area.

Cedars in the Glen
8" x 10" Oil on panel, painted on location in Springwater Township Ontario. The spring weather was "just around the corner" when I got out early one morning to capture this scene. Shipped flat, no frame

Copeland Forest Swamp
The spring melt was well underway when I trekked out to the Copeland Forest to paint on location.  Stepping through melting snow up to my knees in the forest, I stopped at this spot just as the mist from the swamp was evaporating creating a wonderful effect of light and shadow.  8" x 10" Oil on panel, painted on location just outside of Midhurst, Ontario

Honey Harbour
The beach scene is opposite the Delawana Inn in Honey Harbour.  Painting outdoors is one of my favorite activites and the day was perfect in every sense of the word.  Warm spring light, the whisper of wind in the pines and gently moving water made a recipe for success.

Grazing Sheep
Friends of mine have a gentleman's farm in Horseshoe Valley Ontario where I like to go occasionally to paint.  This rolling hill topped with towering maple trees forms the boundary between properties and makes a pastoral scene that caught my attention.  The spring leaves were just budding, the sheep were grazing on the hillside and the mosquitoes were feasting on my exposed skin!

Late September, Algonquin
During a hike in Algonquin Park we came across this typical scene of a lake fringed with cedar and pines, the rolling Algonquin Highlands in the distance.  I could have taken a photograph but the result of photos is never as colourful and moving as a painting.  Besides, it gave me a bit of time to be alone and digest the scene making an indelible memory.

Lovers Creek, April
I'm a bit of a sucker for meandering streams through the forest as you can see in some of my other pictures.  I read a book by ____ that changed the way I was looking at mundane scenes we all see everyday.  For instance, I drive home from the studio everyday and pass this scene along the way.  One day after reading this book I decided to record the image that hundreds of people see everyday and never give it a second thought.

Minising Swamp
Part of a vast wetland in the Nottawasaga Valley, the Minising Swamp makes an ideal place to canoe and hike along km's of trails.  In this scene just outside of Midhurst the air is filled with the buzz of new life in the spring of 2006.  One of my earliest plein air paintings, I still enjoy looking at it.

Blowout on the Bay, Tollendale Beach
This was one of those days when the clouds poured down rain and the wind blew roughly 60km/hr - perfect for painting outdoors.  Thankfully, the rain let up, but the wind continued to whip the waves on the bay as majestic cumulonimbus clouds sailed by.  I sheltered myself out of the wind and painted in relative quiet two scenes that hold that memory intact.
